The Bhai Hira Singh Ragi Memorial Competition is an annual gurmat sangeet competition held in Sydney for youth under the age of 25. We encourage all youth to participate by performing kirtan, reciting paath or playing a musical instrument.

2024 will be the 23nd year that this competition has been running in Sydney, with the Grace of Waheguru.

The competition is held in honour of the memory of Bhai Hira Singh ji, one of the most impactful kirtaniye of the twentieth century for our community.

With around 100 participants each year, the competition consists of individual and jatha events for age groups starting from Under 5 years up to the 17-25 years age group.

Participants are encouraged to learn and perform the nirdharit raags from Guru Granth Sahib ji and to learn and play our traditional musical instruments.

Bonus marks are given to participants who perform shabad kirtan in the nirdharit raag from Guru Granth Sahib ji. The competition also includes instrumental events for youth who play the tabla or string instruments such as dilruba, taus or rabab.
